Outreach services are “any type of health service that mobilizes health workers to provide services to the population away from the location where they usually work and live”. Outreach provides an opportunity to extend PHC services beyond the clinic, to enhance access to essential health services for those who cannot access the clinic. Outreaches are also used to boost health services uptake for the populations with low uptake for various interventions e.g. vaccination. For outreaches to be effective, integrated services need to be provided. These services include provision of immunization, antenatal, postnatal, family planning, NCD and outpatient consultations. Outreaches are provided to all members of the community but special consideration is provided for pregnant women, women of reproductive age, children and people with disabilities. They should be conducted with a maximum of 10 PHC staff.
