Key Points

  1. Outreach should only be conducted for communities that are hard to reach or experiencing an outbreak.

  2. Outreach activities include a health talk and demonstrations in addition to service provision (See ‘how to conduct a community demonstration’).

  3. The health talk should be carried out by a PHC service provider.

  4. Acquire all the necessary materials including medical supplies, service providers, IEC materials and reporting tools.

  5. Take into consideration community calendars when planning for the outreach e.g. market days, MNCH days at local facility etc. may provide useful insights as to when it’s most ideal to conduct outreaches in terms of better targeting.

  6. Be punctual on the day.

  7. After the outreach, ensure that all the data that is collected is captured in the data system and a copy to be maintained in the community.
